Battlefield New Game – A Return to the Good Old Days

After traversing various eras, from World War 1 to the near future with its recent installment, Battlefield developers have finally concluded that players didn’t want to either feel nostalgic about the past or be curious about the future. They wanted a game like Battlefield 3 and 4. Vince Zampella, head of Respawn Entertainment and overseer of the Battlefield franchise, said this in an interview with IGN:

“If you look back to the peak of the pinnacle of Battlefield, it’s that Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.” (IGN)

This confirms that the new Battlefield game aims to align with the most iconic previous installments.

Battlefield New Game – Key Features

EA responded to recent feedback from the gaming community, stating that there will be important changes and features:

Class System Changes:
Zampella stated that the new class system introduced in Battlefield 2042 will be adjusted. The changes will hit the Specialist system, which “didn’t work,” according to Zampella’s statement, and will be removed.

Player Count

Another big change is the removal of 128-player battles, aiming to create a more focused and dynamic combat system. This decision might upset some gamers, but Zampella justified it by saying:

“Yeah, the 128-player, did it make it more fun? Doing the number for the sake of the number doesn’t make any sense.”

Map Design

Battlefield is renowned for its beautiful, massive, and dense maps. Zampella confirmed that the new Battlefield game will put more emphasis on creating even more gigantic, well-designed spaces.

“Nice, dense, really nice, well-designed play spaces.”

Reactions and Anticipation

As expected, these statements resulted in variations in reactions among gamers. Some see this as a very positive and innovative approach, going the extra mile to criticize many features added in the recent Battlefield games. On the other hand, another group of players warned about potential issues with launching and introducing major updates that could have a negative outcome, similar to the launch of Battlefield 2042.

I think we will need to wait and see. Game studios must strive for both innovation and change with every new release while simultaneously pleasing their fanbase—a tough task, but that’s how the market works nowadays.

Seeing what competitors like Call of Duty have achieved after introducing significant changes to their series, Battlefield needs to align with that and even surpass it. This includes adding new modes, and variations in combat systems, classes, and maps. The game’s past success influenced other renowned titles and “forced” the market to shift and explore new features, creating a more engaged and loyal community.

Finally, their responsiveness and ability to act based on community feedback sets EA apart from other developers. This is evident in their recent statements about the new Battlefield game, where they addressed past criticisms and focused on the core gameplay that made Battlefield, well… Battlefield.

I will keep updating this post as we see more interviews and rumors about the next Battlefield. Keep this one in your favorites! 😉
